REVIEW - Rab Magma Trousers

These Rab Magma Trousers have earned themselves a fine ‘Sunny Side Up’ on the Egg-o-meter from Hoi! Concluding that these trousers are perfect for novices and seasoned hikers alike!
Hoi –
Having worn them for over a month now, with about 30 miles clocked, I highly recommend these trousers if you’re looking for something lightweight and breathable.
Though I am more accustomed to combat trousers with multiple pockets (these trousers only hold two); when you carry so much weight on your back, the last thing you want to do is store more things on your legs!
Read below to find out why I love these so much!

FIRST THOUGHTS
It took me a while to find a pair of trousers which I was happy with. I tried on quite a few and was getting exhausted as a lot of the women ones were so tight fitting and felt more like they designed them to be fashionable rather than practical.
However, when I was helping Shane look for his, I thought I would try on some of the men’s ones and actually found these Rab Magma ones that fit perfectly! I committed to the purchase in GoOutdoors, handing over a fairly high sum of £85.50 ($110) – which included the GoOutdoors members discount and a sale reduction.
To be honest, it was a toss-up between Montane Terra and these, but what sold it for me was the extra flexibility where the leg sleeves meet the hip area. When you have to cock your leg up to climb, the last thing you want is all that material riding right up there or pinching your joints!

ON THE FIELD
After walking 15 miles in 25°C heat while fashioning a hefty pack over a variety of terrain, I have to say I was impressed at the way these trousers performed.
For a majority of the time, the breathable material was enough to keep my legs cool, but when it became too much they were easy enough to roll up and expose my legs to the welcoming breeze!
I’ve also tested the Ripstop Matrix reinforcement panels in a field of brambles and gorse bushes and found that even though my flesh was prickled by their cheeky spikes, my trousers remained unscathed other than some tiny threads that had loosened (but only in one or two areas).
The lightweight material also makes for quick drying time, and can fold down pretty tightly to fit into your pack if you need any extra trousers for longer backpacking trips. The only real complaint I have is about the rubbish belt they provide you with. On most sites, it’s added as a selling point, but honestly, they should have just saved the money and not bothered!
